The Story of
the Spire

Thanks to a very generous grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we have restored the “at risk” spire of our beautiful building and have explored the rich heritage of our church and its community in our Spire Heritage Project.

The church of St John the Evangelist has been at the heart of the community of North Worksop since 1869. Our tall, graceful spire, which dominates the town skyline, was deemed in 2021 to be at risk. The Spire has been restored and our roofs repaired through our Spire Heritage Project which has been funded with a generous grant by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Our grateful thanks also go to the church congregation and community for their support with fundraising. We also thank the Nottinghamshire Historic Churches Trust, the Garfield Weston Foundation, Alexander and Caroline Simmons Trust and the Benefact Trust for their grants towards the project.

We welcome you to browse through our website. Please join us if you can for our coffee mornings ‘Tuesdays@10’ each week to learn more and enjoy good company.
